The Open Design project is based on fab lab facilities, which are rapidly expanding.
The aim of the project was to offer an open design to users who want to make their own furniture, such as tables or chairs, using fab labs or their own tools.
Fablabs are excellent opportunities to share knowledge and expensive equipment.
Inspired by Enzo Mari, one of the first designers to create open source designs, we decided to design simple wooden objects, but also to play with the mechanical properties of plywood, such as its flexibility.
The result is an innovative piece of furniture, made from a single sheet of plywood, based on the principle of wood tension. This allows us to produce furniture that is easy to manufacture and assemble.
The aim of the project, if we were to develop it, would be to allow people to modify the furniture according to their needs using online parametric software, so that we could keep track of the variations and eventually offer a complete collection of participatory furniture.
